It’s All French [Bulldog] To Me, Kate Spade

I love dogs – most specifically French Bulldogs.

Let’s get to know each other a little: “My name is Emi. I love all things preppy and all things with French bulldogs incorporated in them.” Now there are a lot of people that say, “Emi, I too love dogs” to which I kindly respond, “Do you burst into tears when you see one on the street?” That usually creates a moment of awkward silence until one of us walks away…

Allow me to share a personal story with you: about two years ago, I went out to dinner with my Big, her boyfriend, and Doug. After a large Italian dinner, the four of us were walking near Central Park to the Columbus Circle subway station. Doug spots an FBD and a really friendly-looking woman who seemed like a nice enough person to let me pet her dog. The three of them run over to her and tell this poor innocent woman how much I love her dog and ask if I can pet it. When she agreed, they all look around and I’m nowhere to be found. I stumble over sobbing and unable to pet the FBD because I’m so overcome with joy. Yes, this is me. Yes, I’m amazed to have friends every day. No, I’m not in a 12 Steps group yet.

Saying “I love dogs” is a severe understatement, but sadly as far as the English language is concerned, it’s sufficient.

A close second to my love for all things FBD (yes, Doug and I have devised an acronym because no one has time to type out that name on a daily basis) would definitely be Kate Spade. This summer, a Paris café collection was released and FBDs took the starring role as the main inspiration. Naturally, I emailed the designer (she’s a fabulous woman by the name of Deborah and is truly is an inspiration) to thank her for creating something so near and dear to my heart. I then proceeded to invite her to come on the program I produce to speak about creating a French line while opening a virtual boutique in Paris. I promise, I do actually do work with my contacts…

As soon as I saw this bag online, I immediately began sending pictures of it to Doug asking (in a not so subtle way) for him to buy it for me.

It was a combination of two of my favorite things and literally couldn’t have thought of a better “little black bag.” From the beige suede ears to the little button nose, the detailing on the bag is elegant with a pop of fun – let me put it this way, there never was a more “Emi bag” than this, my friends.

My birthday is on this upcoming Wednesday and since the commute from Long Island to Manhattan is a little tricky – especially at rush hour – Doug and I exchanged gifts this weekend. This is not the place to brag about what he gave me but let’s just say I was clearly very overwhelmed by his generosity and how much time he spent choosing the gifts. If you’re reading this post – thank you so much, Doug! He chose the order of the presents and presented me with the “big bag” at the very end. I was hoping the purse was in there but opening it was truly such great joy; nothing says 25 like a designer dog bag…

Now here’s the good news and the bad news: the bad news is this particular bag is sadly sold out on the Kate Spade site (eBay is a magical site for buying bags, friends) but the rest of the collection is very well stocked and is currently on sale!

I’ve linked an envelope bag first because it has the same detailing and would be so cute with a camel coat but there are accessories and clothing pieces that are equally as cute.

Happy shopping!
