One Outfit Three Ways / / Everyday Preppy Spring Look

Spring weather is truly the best weather (well, besides PSL weather but that’s a different story.) I legit get so excited when the weather starts to get warmer and the sun stays out a little longer because of the fashion that comes with it. Silly, I know, but there’s something about gingham and a good white jean that gets me really excited for a cute preppy spring look.

Normally I’m running to stores (literally used to run because those taxis weren’t stopping for anyone) but with the current situation, my in store shopping has slowed to a halt. Doug and I are trying to be a little more mindful with our spending – quarantine is a perfect time to save some money – and I’ve been challenging myself to wear more of my current wardrobe without adding anything too similar to what I already own. Time to create some new combos! It’s a challenge and I’m up for it!

J.Crew has always been my absolute favorite for basics and staple pieces that won’t go out of style the following year.

Trend items are super fun but the best investment will always be in the classics. To keep everything looking fresh and up to date, I like to pair something that’s more classic with something more contemporary, like the ripped mom jeans I styled this look with.

Here’s the deal guys, I have fully converted to loving everything about Abercrombie & Fitch.

My middle school heart is singing! After a rebrand a few years ago, the pieces feel more sophisticated and have no label on them, which would have made my middle school heart sob. Anyone remember only buying a shirt because it had a moose on it?

I had been so hesitant about trying the mom jeans trend because I’m on the more petite side (I’m 5’3”) and have always been concerned they would shrink the little bit of height I have. When I came across these pants with an ankle crop, I immediately added them to my cart! They’re the perfect length and I love how they’re still fitted in the upper leg, so it still defines you shape before getting a little looser below the knee. 10/10 for me!

But enough talk – let’s get down to the outfit inspo! Here are three ways to shake up the same outfit and have it look completely different! Who knew the way you tuck in your shirt can make all the difference?

Style 1: The Full Tuck

This is probably the most traditional way to wear a button down shirt. It’s super easy and perfect for those mornings if you may have skipped out on steaming before running out the door…

I always opt for a high-rise pant if I’m styling my top this way. That way, you’re being accented in your thinnest portion of your torso, which will elongate those legs for days. Plus you’re not having to constantly re-tuck when you move because your waistband will keep everything in place.

Style 2: The Half Tuck

When I first saw this style in a J.Crew ad a few years ago admittedly I wasn’t a believer. Over time though, this has grown on me and is now one of my go-to styles for casual and work looks. It’s a fun twist on the classic full tuck.

Tip: when styling your shirt like this, try and keep a little bit of the shirt visible from the front on the side you are tucking in. I’ve found if you fully tuck, it can come across like you haven’t totally decided how you want to have your shirt look that day. Once you try it once I guarantee you’ll love it!

Style 3: The Knot

This is admittedly my favorite way to wear buttons downs in the spring and summer. There’s just an air of fun associated with this style and I love how it highlights your waist if you’re wearing a high-waisted jean.

To achieve the perfect knot, leave the bottom three buttons undone and tie your shirt in a knot twice. This will prevent your top from coming loose when you’re running errands.

Let me know which style is your favorite in the comments!
