Styling A Suede Skirt For Fall

Fall is almost here! Cue my September staple: the suede skirt.

This week is the week – and if you’re anything like me, you’ve been sipping your daily PSLs for almost a full month now. While also dreaming of sweater weather since mid-August.

Ladies, The Time Is Finally Here: It’s Fall, Y’all

Hold on to your floppy hats and hug your blanket scarves extra tightly because this are about to get a little more cinnamon-y (okay, I’m done now – as I sit writing this post with my new pumpkin spice candle burning).

For the next few posts, I’m going to be featuring some of my favorite looks to help you and your wardrobe transition to the changing season. While fall is my favorite time of year, it also can be one of the more challenging times to dress for, since the weather can’t quite make up its mind.

While every area of the country is different, Manhattan is currently flip-flopping with temperatures. One week it’s in the 60s and the next we’re cranking up the AC, as temperatures are back in the 80s. Seriously Mother Nature, don’t you know we just want to bust out some camel sweaters? As a way of staying ahead of the forecast, I love looking for ways to still feel festive and feel like I’m dressing for the time of year at the same time.

Can we just thank the recent trend of bringing back the 90’s for a hot second? Your mom definitely owned one of these bad boys and now it’s your turn to add one to your closet, too. I bought this particular skirt in 2015 on a whim because I loved the texture and how classic it looked. Flash forward to 2016 and the skirt was in every fashion spread and taking over my Instagram feed (totally worth it).

This piece is a must-have for the season. As you can dress it up, down, pair it with tights or just rock it with your favorite pair of heels. It’s the perfect piece to wear that gives the illusion of fall but still comfortably packs the feeling of summer. Aka a win-win for all the ladies in the house.

For days when the weather is still feeling a little summery.

I love to pair a short-sleeved sweater with this look. The top I’m wearing in this post just went on sale at J.Crew and I couldn’t be more thankful. Truth be told, I was wearing the top to a meeting with a publicist and she had on the exact same one in a different color – it was fate and the sign the meeting was going to go wonderfully (spoiler alert: it did).

My favorite feature from this top are the bows, which pop on each shoulder. Not only do they look adorable, but they provide the perfect amount of fun for a workday meeting or for strolling around the Hampton’s on the weekend.

To top off the rest of your ensemble (pun fully intended) I am still obsessed with floppy hats.

They’re the right accessory for just about every outfit. This particular hat is one of my personal favorites because of the strip that goes around the middle of the brim. It has three different shades of cream, camel, and tan, making it the perfect “something” for a variety of color pallets.

Pro-tip: whenever buying accessories look at the variety of colors in the piece and think back to your wardrobe.

Think, “Can I wear this with multiple outfits” before ever going to check-out If the answer is no, think carefully about making the investment. Pieces that can play up a variety of bases in an outfit will be much more valuable to you rather than a a closet full of stand-alone items.

Soak up the last nice days because once they’re gone, they’re gone. In the meantime, if you’ve simply caught the “fall bug” begin transitioning your wardrobe over slowly and finding pieces to use as an anchor in bridging the seasons 🙂
