Friendships are all honestly so unique and special.

Each one comes in different seasons of life and while some last longer than others. There is a unique quality that makes all friendships so profoundly special.

From your childhood friend growing up, you used to sing Hannah Montana with to your college buddy that bought you chicken nuggets after your first major heartbreak. Key memories in life are often measured not in the situation but in the people we shared them with.

Doug and I have one of the truest friendships I’ve ever experienced in my life. No matter what time of day, I can call him and he answers. However his day is going, he asks me how I’m feeling and how my day is going. If he’s hungry or not, he asks me what I’d like to eat. Yes, even I’m surprised by that one.

Last summer, Doug decided to join a gym and began a regular workout routine.

Now I have to admit, I was a little skeptical about this sudden excitement he had about this new location he was going multiple times a week. I honestly thought this so-called “lifestyle change” was simply going to become another fad habit we’d both look back on one day in a “remember that idea” sort of way. He couldn’t have proved me anymore wrong if he tried (Doug, if you’re reading this, you know how much I love those results Lifetime has given you.)

After months of him working out and looking amazing, I started to feel left out and wanted the same experience. I wanted to have that feeling towards something that he had towards his workout classes. In January, I joined Pure Barre after proving to myself I could manage the intro month and haven’t looked back.

If you follow me or take a look at my feed for approximately two minutes, you know I’m obsessed with the workout (that’s another post for another day). I honestly owe it all to Doug and the way he supported me to try something new.

When I first heard about the Earl Grey and Polka Dots’ new line called Steady and Flight, I knew within seconds this collection was speaking to everything I love about my relationship with Doug.

The new line is a twist on the friendship bracelets of the 1990s where one person would keep one item and gift the other piece of the set to their best friend. In each relationship, there is a person who holds the pair steady and another lifts the pair up for upward movement. No one person is steady all the time and no one person can allow the pair to take flight constantly. Yet the right people bring out the best in each other.

Earl Grey and Polkadots convey this idea beautifully through the symbols of an anchor and a hot air balloon. We had a long conversation about our personality characteristics and if we identified more with one symbol or another. It was no surprise we were perfectly balanced together. Him being the anchor and me being the hot air balloon.

Plus let’s be real: how stinkin’ cute are these steady and flight mugs?

There’s nothing like a little dark roast with some coconut creamer in one of these stunning cream-colored cups to turn your morning right around.

Especially as we both looked ahead in our fitness journeys, he was always there to keep me grounded and realize where I started. And celebrate the small victories. On the other hand, I was always the one ready to hype us both up and point out all the positive changes. I’m all about telling Doug that his arms look amazing about five times a day.

It’s exciting to partner with a company that has such a pure mission at hand and celebrates how individuality builds stronger relationships. From note pads to their signature mugs, the Steady and Flight collection truly is the perfect way to celebrate the anchor to your hot air balloon.
